Healthcare Quality Improvement is Priority

On January 18, 2013 IFH held the Workshop “Healthcare Quality Improvement. Governmental Bodies and NGOs Collaboration Prospects”. The Workshop was attended by the Russian Ministry of Health, Rospotrebnadzor and Roszdravnadzor representatives as well as regional perinatal centers’ heads.

Alexander Goliusov, Deputy Director of Health and Sanitary-Epidemiological Welfare Department, MOHSD, spoke about previous experience of cooperation with IFH: “Projects and initiatives that have been implemented by IFH for many years contribute to healthcare quality improvement as well as sanitary and epidemiological welfare in Russia.”

The Workshop agenda was rich and comprehensive. IFH Director General Natalia Vartapetova presented the modern international healthcare quality requirements that are built on safety, efficacy, and client-oriented approach. Particular attention was paid to certification of healthcare settings.

Head Epidemiologist Nicolay Briko and Deputy Head of Epidemiologic Surveillance Department, Rospotrebnadzor, Larissa Dementyeva focused on a very important healthcare issue – prevention of healthcare-associated infections in medical facilities. They both gave credit to the recently published Guideline “Prevention of Healthcare-Associated Infections in Maternity Settings”, which was developed by IFH in 2012. It is currently planned to reprint the Guideline with the support of Russian MOHSD and Rospotrebnadzor.

The agenda also covered the prospects of collaboration between healthcare settings and Moscow International Higher Business School MIRBIS and the Maternity Hospital # 4 visit to St. Joseph Hospital (USA) organized by IFH. In a vivid discussion the participants agreed on future cooperation plans and priorities.
